Sewing Tips

1.  Do not "overread the instructions".  We have created instructions that should be easy to follow, no strange steps or notions!

2.  DO use an even feed foot if your machine balks at handling heavy fabrics.  Also, a size 16 needle may be helpful when stitching through four or more layers.  (I will put in a "shameless" plug for my favorite machine: Brother PQ1500.  All of our samples pictured on this site have been constructed using this machine!  It handles the fabrics beautifully without the even feed foot!)

3.  Pay attention to the design of your fabric and cut accordingly.  Some of the quilted fabrics have a one way design.  We note this on the pattern but a second reminder is always helpful!

4.  Borders of 2"-3" look the best. Borders larger than 3" will often "overpower" the purse, especially some of the smaller versions.  If you really love the border, I would omit the pockets on KQ101.

5.  If you make several and notice some discrepancy in the size, well, it just your originality shining though!  I have made a number of Kq101 and I don't think any of them have turned out exactly the same size.  Some of this will have to do with the size of the border that you choose or the depth you use on the purse bottom.
